We have a huge gun tree at the back of our house. These caterpillars have been appearing on the tree for as long as I can remember. This is the back end.
A side on view view of the back end.
They have a fantastic colouring to them. They start off as little black caterpillars and then as they eat tons of gum leaves the colour starts to come through.
A close up of the head. During the shoot it kept it's head on the closed flower bud.

Sleepy time? I'm not sure, but it spent a while like this.
Spikes along the body
Sleeping again
Feet, it's like they have little suction cups at the ends
The back end grippers

Toothy time. I couldn't get close enough to see what the teeth were doing
Close up of the head showing the spikes
Normal lighting
Back lighting to show off the fufts on the back
The line going down it's back would pulse with a darker colour that moved from the back to it's front. It presume it was it's heart beat.
